Amber Southall, BAA — Administrative Manager
What inspired you to pursue a career in administration, and how did you get to your current role?
Early in my career, I realized that at the core of any organization is a strong administrative system and effective people management skills. My gained experience in HR and administration has naturally led me to the Administrative Manager position where I can shape systems while supporting both staff and client outcomes.
What does a typical day look like for you as an administrative manager?
No two days are exactly the same, but most involve a mix of operational oversight, staff support and problem-solving. Throughout the day, I prioritize staffing needs, scheduling, and any urgent issues while collaborating with the clinical team to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
What part of your job do you find most rewarding or fulfilling?
I find fulfillment in supporting staff – whether that’s helping someone navigate a challenge, improving workplace processes, or contributing to a positive work environment. Ultimately, the most rewarding part is knowing that the admin team is helping the clinicians focus on patient care.
How do you support and collaborate with different teams or departments?
I act as the bridge between administrative functions and the clinical team; making sure communication is clear, processes are aligned, and workflows are adjusted to better support each specific department.
How would you describe your role and its impact on the organization?
My role is to maintain operational structure, stability, and support so that our organization can grow and operate effectively. The greatest impact that this role has on the organization is that it enables us to provide quality care and a positive workplace culture.
Do you have a favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
My favorite way to unwind is to play with my 8-year-old Shih-Tzu, Biscuit, and spend time with my family.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
It may be surprising that I have experience working in the performing arts and education industry! I have worked with the Chicago Fringe Festival, and I enjoy joining my siblings at K-Pop events!
